Graphite

Terms of Service

Effective 13 October 2026

The short version: Graphite is free to use. What you write is yours. Keep your own backups, since your files live with you, not with us. The app is provided as is.

These terms govern your use of Graphite (“Graphite”, “the app”), a writing app made by AROICE (“we”, “us”), available at write.aroice.in, and to this website at graphite.aroice.in. By using Graphite you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. Using Graphite

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Graphite for any lawful purpose, personal or commercial. You don't need an account. Graphite is currently free; if we ever introduce paid features, we'll tell you clearly before you're charged for anything.

2. Your content

You own everything you write in Graphite. We claim no rights to your documents and, because they're stored on your device or in your own Google Drive, we don't have access to them. You're responsible for your content and for making sure you have the right to use anything you paste or import.

3. Backups are your responsibility

Graphite keeps your writing where you choose: in your browser, in a folder on your computer, or in your Google Drive. Clearing your browser's data, losing a device, or deleting files can permanently remove documents, and we can't recover them. Please keep backups of anything that matters to you, for example by using a folder or Drive library or by exporting regularly.

4. Google Drive

If you connect Google Drive, your use of Drive is also subject to Google's Terms of Service. Graphite accesses only the files it creates or that you open with it, as described in our Privacy Policy. You can disconnect at any time.

5. Share links

Share links carry your document inside the link itself. Anyone with the link can read it, and we can't revoke a link once it's been sent. Don't put content you aren't allowed to share into a share link.

6. Acceptable use

Don't use Graphite or its share links to break the law, infringe others' rights, distribute malware, harass people, or interfere with the app or the infrastructure that serves it. Don't attempt to misuse Graphite's access to Google services.

7. Our software and brand

The Graphite app, name, logo and website are owned by AROICE. These terms don't give you any right to use our name or logo, except to refer to Graphite accurately. Open-source components included in Graphite remain under their own licences.

8. Changes and availability

We may update, change or discontinue Graphite or any feature at any time. Because the app works offline and stores your files in standard Markdown, your writing remains readable in any text editor even if Graphite changes.

9. No warranty

Graphite is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted, error-free operation. Suggestions such as Style Check are aids, not advice.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, AROICE is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, content, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use Graphite. Our total liability for any claim relating to Graphite is limited to the amount you paid us to use it in the twelve months before the claim, which for a free app is zero. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.

11. Ending use

You can stop using Graphite at any time; your files stay where you saved them. We may suspend access for anyone who breaks these terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of India, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the effective date above. If you keep using Graphite after a change, you accept the updated terms.
