About Graphite

Why it exists

Most writing tools ask for an account, a subscription and a place on someone else's server before you've typed a word. Graphite starts the other way round: open it, write, and your words stay with you. A pencil doesn't phone home, and neither should a writing app.

What we believe

• Your files are yours. Documents are plain Markdown, kept in your browser, in a folder on your disk, or in your own Google Drive. Any text editor can open them, today or in twenty years.
• Quiet by default. The interface steps back while you type. Focus and Typewriter modes keep only the sentence you're writing in view.
• Help, not ghostwriting. Style Check points out filler and repetition, but it never rewrites your text. Authorship keeps an honest record of what you typed versus what you pasted or got from AI.
• No tracking. No analytics, no ads, no backend reading your drafts. Our Privacy Policy spells it out.

How it's built

Graphite is a progressive web app. It runs in any modern browser, installs to your desktop or phone like a native app, and works fully offline. The editor is built on CodeMirror, and every feature, from search to exports, runs on your own device.

Graphite is live at write.aroice.in. Open it in any modern browser, and install it from the address bar to keep it on your dock or home screen. It's in active development, so if you find a bug or have an idea, write to us.
